Even on a dreary, wet, and rainy day during my visit, the greens at Nairn Golf Club remained firm and fast. In fact, they outperformed all the other greens I encountered during my 208-hole golfing trip across Northern Ireland and the Scottish Highlands. The secret to the exceptional quality of Nairn’s greens lies in their strategic choice of grass.

Today, approximately 70 to 80 percent of Nairn’s greens are composed of Bent grass.

The defining swale in the middle of the green, set apart from the rest of the putting surface, adds intrigue and drama. Steep slopes on both the front and back sides further enhance the challenge.
