Elevate Your Meatloaf with a Touch of Golf: The Arnold Palmer Inspired Recipe

At this year’s Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill, we pay tribute to
the legendary Arnold Palmer, the king of golf. Apart from being associated
with his famous eponymous beverage, Arnold Palmer also had a fondness for
traditional, home-made favorite dishes like meatloaf. In this article, we
present a modern twist to this classic recipe, inspired by the one and
only Arnold Palmer himself.

Meatloaf Recipe

To make this modern spin on the classic meatloaf, start by preparing the
meat mixture. In a large mixing bowl, combine:

  • 2 lbs ground beef (85/15 preferred)
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 or 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 eggs

Mix the ingredients together with your hands, then add the remaining
ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup of breadcrumbs
  • 3 tbsp of ketchup
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 pinch pepper
  • 1 tbsp finely-chopped parsley

Gently fold the mixture together by hand. Line two 9×5 loaf pans with
parchment paper to prevent sticking. Divide the meat mixture evenly
between the pans.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and bake the meatloaf for 40 minutes.

Sauce Recipe

While the meatloaf is cooking, prepare the sauce. In a bowl, combine:

  • 3/4 cup of ketchup
  • 2.5 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1.5 tsp garlic powder
  • 3/4 tsp onion powder
  • A pinch of salt and pepper
  • 1 tsp white vinegar

Stir the sauce ingredients together until well combined.

After 40 minutes, remove the meatloaf from the oven. Brush the top of the
meatloaf with the sauce, then return the pans to the oven for another 20
minutes.

Once the meatloaf reaches an internal temperature of at least 160 degrees,
remove it from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes.

Assembly

While the meatloaf is resting, prepare the buns. Cut a pack of King’s
Hawaiian savory butter rolls in half, treating them like one giant slider.
Butter the cut sides of the rolls and place them on a griddle to brown,
approximately 3 to 4 minutes.

Collect the juices that have accumulated in the meatloaf pans. Lift the
meatloaf out of the pans using the parchment paper. Slice the meatloaf to
the desired thickness and place it on the rolls. Drizzle the extra juice
on top before placing the other half of the rolls on the meat.

Finally, slice each roll into 12 individual sliders and serve. Enjoy the
savory and flavorful mega meatloaf slider fit for a king!
