Matt Thurmond’s Impactful Career at Arizona State and Beyond
Matt Thurmond, first serving as an assistant at BYU, his alma mater, began his influential coaching career which led him to a head coach position at Washington in 2001. Under his guidance, the Huskies achieved their first-ever third-place finish at the NCAA Championship in 2005, a year marked by player James Lepp securing the individual NCAA title.
Appointed as the head coach for Arizona State on July 25, 2016, Thurmond has since spearheaded the Sun Devils to 24 tournament victories, highlighting his tenure with a 2024 Pac-12 Championship and back-to-back NCAA Regional titles in 2022 and 2023.
